- The Báb is the Prophet-Herald of the Bahá’í Faith who brought religious teachings about a spiritual reawakening of humanity to prepare for a greater day of unity and peace. The Báb is buried inside the golden-domed Shrine on Mount Carmel.
- In 1891 Bahá’u’lláh , the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, visited Haifa and selected Mount Carmel as the location for the Shrine of the Báb.
- In 1909, the remains of the Báb were laid to rest in a simple stone structure.
- In 1953, a colonnade and golden dome were constructed over the original building.
- In 2001, 18 majestic terraces above and below the Shrine were completed to adorn and beautify this Holy Place.
- The Bahá’í Shrine and Gardens on Mount Carmel are a Bahá’í Holy Place, a spiritual focal point for Bahá’í pilgrims who travel here from every part of the globe to visit and pray at these Sacred Spots.
